Oral Surgery

Many of our patients have severe malocclusions and are referred for combined orthodontic and orthognathic care. This is particularly true since Dr. Sarver has been involved in treatment of severe orthodontic problems and cleft palate care. This book reflects his commitment to this sort of care. The term orthognathic surgery means, "changing jaws" and describes the interdisciplinary cooperation between orthodontists and oral surgeons. The surgical patient guide was developed by Dr. Sarver to help patients through this process, which can be overwhelming at times with the amount of information required for our patients to digest. In addition to the written surgical guide, a surgical CD-ROM was developed by Dr. Sarver with Ormco Corporation (Orange, CA), which includes visual animation of the types of procedures that we might be considering. Our effort is to make sure that there are no mysteries with these patients who are committing themselves to surgical treatment. If you are preparing for surgery, please view Dr. Sarver's pre-surgery booklet.
